If you have ever felt self-conscious about your smile, you owe it to yourself to call one of our Grandville dentists to see if you are a candidate for dental veneers.
You may benefit from porcelain veneers if your teeth are chipped, stained, gapped, misaligned, or badly worn. Veneers are usually only applied to teeth that are visible while talking or smiling. Porcelain veneers are thin porcelain shells that can be bonded to the fronts of your teeth to improve the appearance of your smile.
Dental veneers are able to improve the color, size, length, and shape of teeth. The advantage of veneers over dental crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, making the procedure more comfortable for you.
The porcelain veneer procedure takes two visits to our office. Once we determine porcelain veneers are appropriate for your smile, one of our dentists will prepare the teeth that are to receive veneers. Our dentist will remove about 1/2 millimeter of enamel from the fronts of your teeth to make room for the veneers. Otherwise, the veneers will make your teeth seem large and bulky.
Dental impressions will be taken and sent to the lab where your new porcelain veneers will be made. In the meantime, your teeth will be given temporary coverings. Your veneers should be ready in 2 to 3 weeks.
During your next appointment, the temporary coverings will be removed before the permanent veneers are bonded to your teeth. With proper care, you can expect your porcelain dental veneers to last for about 10 years before needing replacement.
